5 October 2009: A healthy field of 191 finishers enjoyed a lovely morning for running – cool and still – alongside the soothing Lake Burley Griffin.

In the 10 km race, Nicholas Kestelein powered away from Craig Benson and Bill Benett to win in 35:27. Evergreen Trevor Jacobs won the Men 50-59 in 39:31 by a comfortable margin. In the Men 60-69, Paul Archer (45:15) was pressed all the way by Bob Harlow (45:31), with Jim White not far back in 46:45. Lachlan Lewis was unchallenged to take the Men 70+ division in 1:04:00.

Natalie Wood (40:33) was most impressive in winning the women's race from Sarah Fien and Lizzie Wraith. Robyn McLelland was first in the Women 50-59 with her 51:37; while the outstanding Caroline Campbell took the honours in the Women 60-69 in 56:16.

It is not every day a race is won outright by a runner in the Under 13 Boys division, yet Josh Torley did just that, outrunning the entire field in the 4 km to win in the extraordinary time of 15 minutes flat. Second place outright (15:13) was taken by Sarah Lonsdale, running in the Girls Under 17 – ahead of the Men 17+ winner, Joe Leahy in 15:22, and runner-up Chris Lilley (15:30). Joshua's sister Nicola Torley, competing in the Under 13 Girls was next, in 15:54. Older brother Michael Torley won the Boys Under 17 race in 16:25, while Kisrty Janszen was first Female 17+ in 19:29.

Full results by category are now published, along with a photo album from the finish line.

Sri Chinmoy Canberra Day 10 km & 4 km Race Report

9 March, 2009- Closed to swimming for over a month, Lake Burley Griffin nevertheless remains an idyllic backdrop for a morning run.

The annual Sri Chinmoy Canberra Day 10 km & 4 km Fun-Runs were staged in ideal running conditions-  overcast with little breeze and soothing views over a serene lake. A friendly group of 134 runners and walkers made the most of the beautiful morning, the course, each other's company, and a hearty pancake breakfast before parting ways to enjoy the remainder of this public holiday.

Up-and-coming star, Shane Farrant, easily won the 4 km race outright in 14:16, racing in the Under 17 Boys division, from Hayden Armstrong (M17+) in 15:02, while third placing went to Under 13 Boys winner, Joshua Torley, returning the excellent time of 15:26.

While Joshua's placing was outstanding, his sister Nicola outdid him by winning the women's race outright in 16:04, from the Girl's Under 13 division! Second place Girl Under 13, Olivia Fogarty, also came in ahead of the entire field of Women 17+, who were headed in by Karina West in 18:18.

Alex Miller led home the field in the 10 km race over the rather hilly course, crossing the line in 38:01. Martin Woods (43:21) just edged out Paul Archer in the Men 50-59 division, while Geoff Barker (53:39) continued his run of trophies in the Men 60-69 division.

Meanwhile Emily Lamrock was a clear winner in the women's race in 41:47. The ageless Caroline Campbell, participating the Women 60-69 division, bettered two thirds of the women's field with her 54:23.

Full results by category and a photo album from the finish line are now published.
