The UK Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team have been promoting sporting events in the UK since the late 1970s. Events include:

The following event information applied to the inaugural event which was to be staged on Saturday 9 September 2006. Updated information will be posted in due course for the 2007 race.

Course Description

The course begins and ends at the Perisher Valley Nordic Shelter.   The loop to be used and course map will be posted here soon.

Night Vision


After 5 pm, every skier must race with his/her own headlamp and wear reflective clothing.   Headlamps must be of sufficient strength to see clearly in the dark a minimum of 5 metres ahead of the wearer.   Skiers are responsible to bring adequate replacement batteries to ensure a continuous power supply to their headlamps throughout the event.

Divisions and Categories

The divisions and categories for the 6 hour and 12 hour races will be the same:

1) Divisions and Categories

In each race there will be Divisions for Solo Skiers and Teams

a) Solo Skiers Division

Solo skiers will be arranged by category according to age and gender, as follows

Age categories (age as of 31st December 2005)

6- and 12-Hour - Under 50 (male and female); 50 and over (male and female)

Solo skiers under 16 will not normally be permitted to race solo in either race.   Solo skiers under 18 will not normally be permitted to race solo in the 12hour event.

b) Teams Division

There will be All-Female, Open and Mixed categories within the Teams Division.   Teams may contain from 2 to 6 members.

The teams will be run as"Freeform Teams" where members may complete as many laps as they please, in any order.

The exception to this rule is the Mixed Teams.   At least 1/3 of laps completed by Mixed Teams must be completed by female member(s) of the team.

Registration and Start Times

12 hour Race

Registration:   September 9 (race day) 7- 8.30am at the Nordic Shelter, Perisher Valley

Race Briefing:   8.50 am at the start (Nordic Shelter)

Start Time:   9am

Finish Time: 9pm

6 hour Race

Registration:   September 9th (race day) 1- 2.30pm at the Nordic Shelter, Perisher Valley

Race Briefing:   2.50 pm at the start (nordic shelter)

Start Time:   3pm

Finish Time:   9pm

Awards and Ceremony Times

Certificates will be presented to all competitors.   Awards will be presented to the first 3 places in each category.

Award Ceremony Time:   Awards will be presented as soon as practicable after the race finish at 9 pm.  

Important Dates

Close of entries:   6 pm Thursday 31 August 2006.

Entries may be accepted after this time at the organisers' discretion.   The late entry fee will apply.

Race Day:   9 am (12 Hour) and 3 pm (6 Hour) Saturday 9 September 2006.

Aid Stations

There will be an aid station at the start/finish area at the Nordic Shelter.

The aid station will provide hot and cold food and drinks including sports drink, tea and coffee and the requisite hot blackcurrent cordial.   There will also be a variety of hot and delicious protein rich food. Please note that solo skiers in particular should prepare their own personal nutrition plan for the race.

Safety

The skiers' safety is of paramount importance throughout the race.

Day Time Safety

Appropriate clothing must be worn at all times.   This includes sunscreen, sunglasses, gloves and head wear (beany or sun hat).

Sports paramedics will be on hand at the track throughout the day.

Competitors should carry water and a snack at all times.

The organisers reserve the right to withdraw any competitor if they or the event medical staff feel the competitor is endangering themselves or others at any time.

At least one skidoo will constantly be patrolling the course ensuring skiers safety at all times.   Please feel free to hail one if you are in need of support.   The skidoo drivers have the absolute right to bring back any competitor they feel should be assessed by the medical staff.   Following assessment by the medical staff, a decision will be made whether to withdraw the competitor from the race, allow the competitor to continue.
