Sri Chinmoy Running & Fitness Festival Race Report 2008

Sunday 25 May 2008, Williamstown

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Sri Chinmoy Running & Fitness Festival on Sunday. A full list of results and photographs are now available online. Now in it's 13th edition the Festival attracted a near record field of 1238 participants across the 4 events - marathon, half marathon, 10km and 4km.

Joyfully coinciding with Festival is the World Harmony Run a global torch relay promoting universal oneness and understanding which was founded by Sri Chinmoy in 1987. The Australian leg of the World Harmony Run is currently completing a 111 day full circuit of the continent and many of runners of the international running team either raced or helped out on the day.

We are very pleased to announce that brother and sister Dima and Natalya Lehonkova, from Ukraine, who are both running around the whole country, stood first in their respective events. Dima taking out the 4km in a new course record time of 13.54 and Natalya finishing first in the womens race in a very respecatble 1.24.00.

This year we introduced a chip timing to the event which was very well received. We will look at further refining the race number and timing chip distribution on the day to make this a more seamless process for all.

Special thanks also to our supporters, Reebok, Endura, Thrifty, Orgran, Australian Bananas, Leader Newspapers & Lifestyle Fitness who very generously supported the day. Also thanks to the local Williamstown Athletics Club volunteers and the Sri Chinmoy Race officials who travelled from interstate to marshal on street corners, hand out drinks and cook tray after tray of apple crumble.

Next year's Festival is scheduled for Sunday 31 May 2008. But if you cannot wait that long you can check out one of our upcoming events in Victoria.

Happy Running
