A relatively mild morning greeted an enthusiastic turnout for the annual Sri Chinmoy Half-Marathon, 5 Mile and 2 Mile races in and around Telopea Park on the Queens Birthday holiday, Monday 11 June.
First to start were the Half-Marathoners, followed later around the same one-mile loop by the shorter distances.
Trent Dawson set the pace in the 2 Mile race, finishing well clear in 11:24, from Callum and Spencer Burns (both in the Boys Under 13s) chased in 12:43 and 13:13 respectively. Not far behind the boys came Ellie De Ruyter, first Girl Under 13 in a wonderful run of 13:29; ahead of 1st Girl Under 17 Emily Alder (19:57) and 1st Female 17 and Over, Clare Barker in 18:46.
Joshua and Nicola Torley led from start to finish in the 5 Mile, winning the Men's and Women's races respectively in 28:11and 33:16 – a fine family performance! David Alder took out the Men 50-59 in 31:40, and Jennifer Allard the Women 50-59 in 45:53.
The Half-Marathon saw strong running in all age groups. First home in the Men Under 50s was Craig Benson in 1:18:47, from Henry Stimson and Anthony Kennedy. Peter Pommer led home the Men 50-59 in 1:34:13; while Peter Clarke showed classic form in taking out the Men 60-69 with a 1:29:18. Evergreen Lachlan Lewis carried the flag for the Men 70 and Over in 2:28:50.
Natalie Wood ran a fine 1:28:02 to take out the women's race from Jodie Barker and Amanda McCormack. Maria White took out the Women 50-59 in 2:07:18 and Julie Bell the Women 60-69 2:03:06 just ahead of Caroline Campbell.
