    Nirbhasa is from Ireland. He is an enthusiastic multi-day runner, having completed four times the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race - the longest race in the world.

    Sri Chinmoy Running & Fitness Festival at Williamstown.

    Welcome to the 18th Annual Sri Chinmoy Running and Fitness Festival. The information on this sheet is designed to assist you upon arrival at the event and ensure you have a great day. Please take a moment to read it.

    START / FINISH VENUE

    The Newport Athletics Track at the corner of The Strand and North Rd, Newport is the finish venue for the event.

    RACE START TIMES

    7.15AM - Marathon

    8.00AM - 4km

    8.15AM - 10km

    8.40AM - Half marathon

    CHIP TIMING SYSTEM

    Your timing chip will be affixed to the back of your race number (please do not fold or remove) and be detected when you cross the start and finish line. Please note that if you require a replacement race number there will be a $5 reissue fee.

    RACE NUMBERS

    From early May onwards all registered entrants will be sent their race number. You are required to wear this number visibly pinned to the front of your garment at all times while participating in your event. The number should not be pinned below the perforation, this section is removed at the finish line for results processing. Event chest numbers are colour coded in the following way:

    • Red - Marathon
    • Blue - Half Marathon
    • Green - 10km Run
    • Yellow - 4km Run

    The chest number colours also correspond to race specfic km and directional markers along the course. Please note that all numerals are written in dark blue and the event color refers to the background paper.

    Please check that your race number colour corresponds to the event you have entered. If it doesn't, go straight to the information desk at registration at least 30 minutes before your event start time and have your number re-issued, or contact our office prior to event day.

    REGISTRATION

    Activities at registration will include on-the-day entry, bag storage, merchandise pick-up and information desk. Registration is located at the registration marquee at Newport Athletics Track, Corner North Rd & The Strand, Newport. Please note that credit card and cheque payments can not be taken on race day.

    SPECIAL NOTES FOR THE MARATHONERS

    Please note that the marathon will begin at 7.15AM. Marathoners will have 5.5 hours to complete the course. Due to road reopening times a stict cutoff time at 1.15PM will be enforced.

    PARKING

    A special carparking area has been set aside on the grassed area at The Northern end of The Strand to the east of the Newport Athletics Track.

    There is also some street parking available in the following locations;

    • The grass oval to the east of the start line and Newport Athletics Track.
    • The west side of The Strand between North Rd & Fergusson St.
    • The west side of Douglas Parade between North Rd & The West Gate Bridge.
    • Along North Rd between The Strand and Melbourne Rd.

    Please note that there will be no parking at the front and rear carparks of the Lifestyle Fitness Centre.

    COURSE MAPS

    Course maps for each event - marathon, half-marathon, 10km run and 4km run as well as a course description will be sent out to pre registered participants with their race number. The map will also be posted on the event website and will be displayed at the start / finish area on race day.

    DRINK STATIONS

    There are 7 drink stations on the course positioned approximately every 2km as well as at the registration and finish areas. We encourage you to hydrate well before, during and after your event. The aid stations supply water and electrolyte. In addition there will be, fruit, coke and chocolate for those undertaking the Half-marathon and Marathon events.

    TO DEPOSIT PERSONAL DRINKS

    Marathon and half marathon runners are invited to deposit their special drinks at The Strand and Newport Park drink stations which are within 100m walk each side from the Start/Finish. Marathon runners will pass the The Strand drink station at approximately 18, 25 & 34km and pass Newport Park drink station at approximately 22, 30 and 38km.

    MEDICAL

    St John Ambulance will provide first aid support for the event and will be stationed at the finish compound and at strategic points along the course. A copy of the Sri Chinmoy Races Extreme Weather Policy is also available online.

    RACE ETIQUETTE

    Bikes, rollerblades and dogs are not permitted on course. If you choose to run with a running stroller you will be required to start at the back of the field. We request that all competitors assemble on the line with fastest to the front and those walking to the rear. Walkers are requested to start at the rear of the field and to stay in single file when on the narrower sections of the course to allow passage for faster runners.

    POST RACE BREAKFAST

    After your run or walk enjoy a delicious hot pancake, Orgran Pasta, our famous apple crumble and other goodies. The Rainbow-Silence-Heart Restaurant will also be on deck with their coffee machine.

    MERCHANDISE

    This year a commemorative T-Shirt from the Festival is also available for purchase. A limited number of garments are still available for sale online and on the day. We encourage you to purchase early to avoid any disappointment.

    RUNNING GOODS STALL

    BROOKS will be in attendance with a running shoe display offering discounted merchandise for sale at the finish area.

    FINISH CHUTE

    You will be guided through the chute in single file. Please go through the chute only once and do not assist friends or your children through the chute if you have already finished as this can lead to errors in the result times.

    AWARDS

    Awards ceremonies and spot prize draws will take place as close as possible to the following times:

    9.30AM - 4km
    10.00AM - 10km

    11.00AM - Half Marathon
    11.30AM - Marathon

    Sri Chinmoy Races has the following award categories:

    • Trophies for the top 3 male & female competitors for each event.
    • Medallions for the top 3 male & female competitors in the following age categories for each event.
      • Age U15 years (First, Second & Third) #4km only.
      • Age U18 years (First, Second & Third) # Half Marathon, 10km & 4km only.
      • Age 18-39 years (First, Second & Third)
      • Age 40-49 years (First, Second & Third)
      • Age 50-59 years (First, Second & Third)
      • Age 60-69 years (First, Second & Third)
      • Age 70-79 years (First, Second & Third)
      • Age 80+ years (First, Second & Third)

    All marathon finishers will receive a commemorative medallion when they cross the finish line to honour their heroic achievement.

    Online entries close Thursday 25 October at 4PM.

    On the Day

    12km, 8km & 4km - $25 ($20 conc).

    • On the day entries accepted between 7AM and 7.45AM.
    • Concession rates are for U16 and 60+ entrants available only on race day.
    • Credit card and cheque payments can not be taken on race day.

     


     

    Services

    • The event will feature Chip Timing. A disposable timing chip will come affixed to the back race of your race number. A $5 reissue fee is required for replacement of a race number.
    • Registration packs will be mailed out to all pre registered competitors who enter by 4PM Friday 19 October.
    • Runners who enter after 4PM Friday 19 October can pick up their race number from the registration marquee on race morning from 7AM.
    • Accurate AA measured traffic free course with markers every km.
    • Drink stations every 2 km equipped with electrolyte and water
    • Our famous post race pancake breakfast
    • First aid services are provided by St Johns Ambulance.
    • Toilets are available at Riverside Park adjacent to the start/finish.

    Car Parking

    Carparking is available along The Boulevard, Moonee Ponds (Melways Ref 28B7).

    Results, Photos, Race Reports and Race Archive

    Results, photos and the race report will be posted online after the event. You can also have your results sent to you by SMS, on race day, for an additional $2 when you enter online.

    All pre-entered competitors will receive an email with links to the results, photographs and race report in the week following the event.
