Swimming, cycling, running – each is its own unique expression of human endeavour, with its own magnetic appeal, its own inner and outer rhythm, its own challenges, its own mystique, its own deep satisfaction.

Together, they form Triathlon – a glorious, transformative symphony of life-affirmation.

Since 1984, athletes have been drawn by that inner lure to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, to test themselves – their bodies, minds, wills and hearts – in the annual Sri Chinmoy Triathlon Festival.

At its height of popularity in the late 1990s, the Sri Chinmoy Triathlon Festival housed 8 races of varying distances across 3 full days, with a peak of 3714 participants in 1999. Now the event has tapered to a leaner 4 races in 2 days.

This year, due to concerns midweek about the water quality at the traditional venue of Yarralumla Bay, the event was staged at the lovely alternate site of Black Mountain Peninsula.

Our sincere thanks go to all the officials from Triathlon ACT who poured so much time, concern, care and effort into the sanctioning and staging of the Festival; to Sports Medicine ACT for medical support; to the Gungahlin SES and Snowsports ACT for road marshaling; to Canberra Canoe Club for on-water support; to Roads ACT for hours of work preparing Traffic Management Plans, including revising many at the last minute when the venue was switched to Black Mountain Peninsula; to the National Capital Authority and Events ACT for their ready cooperation and expert assistance.

Most of all, our thanks, our congratulations and our admiration go to all the athletes who have taken their places on centre stage for the past 30 years, as the heart and soul of this Festival.

A very special mention and salute to Geoff Llewellyn, who inspired the first staging of this event in 1984 – then the first public triathlon in the ACT – and who recommended the original course. Geoff has participated each and every year of this event's history, always with the same unbounded enthusiasm and wholehearted commitment. In Geoff Llewellyn, nobility and humility go hand in hand: an enduring emblem of all that is good in the sport.

Lastly and always, our soulful gratitude, pride and joy find their home in the radiant heart of Sri Chinmoy, whose glowing example is the constant source of inspiration flowing through the Festival in all its forms over the years.

Full results are published for all four races, both overall and by age category, as well as a photo album.
