The weekend brought with it a spate of rainstorms. Thankfully the bad weather passed, and Monday dawned overcast but dry. Daylight saving time had kicked in, and nearly 200 runners assembled at Acton Park to greet the crisp morning and participate in the Sri Chinmoy Labour Day 10km and 4km Fun-Runs.
In the 4km race, Eddie Kimpton won the Boys Under 13 category in 14:08. Tommaso Sommacal, two seconds behind, won his category, Boys Under 17. Liam Mchugh was the fastest of the day, handily winning his Over 17 category in 13:59.
Madeline Gloede won the Girls Under 13 category in 2042. Clare Rice, with 20:44, was the winner in her category, Girls Under 17. Simona Martorana was first in the Over 17 category with 16:03.
Lachlan Lewis, a truly veteran runner, got off to a late start, but completed the 4km. He, is, as he tells us, “in his ninetieth year”!
In the 10km race, Tara Melhuish won the Women's Under 50 category in 42:32. Not far behind was the winner of the 50-59 age group, Sharon O'Neill, with 43:42 – in the process of her victory, Sharon also broke the F50-59 age group record which has stood for 21 years! Ana Herceg was first in the 60-69 category in 48:38. And the stalwart Clare Wall won the Over 70s in 51:14.
Among the men, Jordan Kelly smashed the field in 34 minutes flat. The 50-59 age group was conquered by Jeremy Kimpton in 37:08. Jeffrey Grey crossed the line in 45:43 to claim first place in the 60-69 category, and the ever-young Trevor Jacobs took gold in the Over 70s with a time of 57:36.
Congratulations to all the finishers, and we hope to see you again at our next Sri Chinmoy Fun-Run!
