The End for Yerrabi/Mulligans Flat Multi-Sport Race?
Event coordinator Prachar Stegemann believes the Sri Chinmoy Yerrabi/Mulligans Flat Multi-Sport race to be held next Sunday 6 May may be the last time the Gungahlin event is staged...
"The urban development in the area between Yerrabi Pond and Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve, particularly the new suburb of Forde, is making it increasingly challenging to find a realistic mountain bike course through the area," he said. "The ongoing urban infill is also greatly increasing the use of both Yerrabi Pond District Park and the adjoining nature reserve. Realistically, this edition may be the last to be staged in its current format."
Combining running, paddling and mountain biking, the race includes short and long options over a scenic, fast and flat course. The short race features a 2.5 km run/2.5 km paddle/15 km mountain bike/3 km run, while the long option is 4 km run/5 km paddle/28 km mountain bike/4 km run. Both races are open to solo athletes and relay teams of 2 or 3. The paddle and run courses are on and around the picturesque Yerrabi Pond, while the mountain bike leg explores the woodlands of Mulligans Flat and Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve.
Online entries for both races are open and entries will still be accepted on the day, Sunday 6 May from 8.30 am at Yerrabi Pond District Park, off Wunderlich St, Gungahlin. Both races commence at 10 am.
