A cool yet sunny morning meant conditions were perfect for our annual Barwon River Run. The first three women across the line in the 6 k event were all from the 40-49 age group, with Loretta McGrath coming in first, followed by Carolyn Scott and then shortly after, Tracie Dekleva. The males were more evenly spread throughout the age range, with under 18 year old Jack Samon coming in first, followed by slightly older Beng So. Third male through was 50 something year old Paul Carroll.
Overall winner of the 12k race, Aleara Wallace, beat the first male through by a good minute, and was nearly 5 minutes faster than the second woman through, Erica Mark, with Caitlin Worsley coming in around 7 minutes later. The top men came in much closer together - Adam Knowles was followed a minute later by Charlie El-Hage, and Evan Ipsen coming in 3 minutes later.
In the 18km race, the first woman through, Natalie Mensch (who shortly after finishing looked like she had been for a stroll in the park), was 4th overall. She was followed by Diane Eliis with Jodi Vack coming third. In the men, Nick Ashton came in first, with Robert Ellis and then Francesco Ciancio following.
As usual we had quite a few youngsters participating on the day, many of them putting their all into the race. Noteworthy was under 15 year old Ohe Davalga, who ran in the 18k event, coming in as 11th female! Quite a number of under 15s entered the 6k race, with many 10 and 11 year olds competing extremely well against older kids in their age category.
Thanks everyone for coming out on the day, and look forward to seeing you on the Barwon River against year!
