  • Sri Chinmoy Princes Park Race Report 2010

    By Veeraja Uppal
    12 April

A record field of close to 500 runners were greeted with perfect autumn running conditions for the Sri Chinmoy Princes Park 15K yesterday. Beautiful clear blue skies, cool temperatures and barely a breath in the wind.

Results are now available and images from the day will up published on line soon.

The premier 15km event was taken out by Matthew Coloe (pictured below) in a sizzling 50.27, breaking our 6 year course record by 3 seconds and finishing almost 5 minutes ahead of Ethiopian national Solomon Haile Melekote who ran a credible 55.23 for second place. As a point of comparison Matthew also went through 10km ahead of the full 10km race field also.

The line honours in the women's 15km race was awarded to Jacqui Toohey in 1:01:23, who like Matthew finished well clear of the rest of the field. The standout age group performances for the day go to Robin Waters who clipped around the 3 loop course in 60:58 to finish 9th overall and to the ever young Nancy Chorley who completed the 15km in a 1:15:20, both ahead of many runners half their age .

In the 10km event Karinna Fyfe raced around the 2 lap circuit in a rapid fire 37:38 to not only finish first amongst the women but third overall!. Further ahead up the track were Louis Guihenneus in 34:55 and Chris Millard 35:41 who took out first and second place in the men's race.

We had a number of younger athletes taking place in day's event with 13 year old Mitchell Cooper making a standout performance completing the 10km course in 42:31 to finish in the top quarter of the field.

The 1 lap 5km event was won by Mark De Campo in a swift 16:42 and first in women's race was Rebecca York in a very speedy 19:11 which gave her 11th place overall too and just 19 seconds shy of the 5km course record.

As with the 10km event we had a number of runners from thr younger generation who ran, jogged and walked the 5km course. It is not possible to name all of them in this brief report but many were acknowledged at awards ceremony for their inspiring efforts and there are numerous photos in the event photo gallery.

Our next event is the Sri Chinmoy Running & Fitness Festival on Sunday May 30 in Williamstown. We already have a record number of entries at this time, in what promises to be a great day of running along the fast and flat Williamstown shoreline. Earlybird online entries close next week.

We look forward to seeing you at Williamstown or at one of our other upcoming events.
