Princes Park, Parkville, Melbourne, 15 July 2007.
Congratulations to the many who ran, walked and jogged at the Sri Chinnmoy Princes Park 30K on Sunday. Results and photographs from the day are now available. The race certainly brought out some fast times from a number of top runners with 4 course records broken or equalled on the morning. Therefore we must pay special tribute to David Green who took out the Half marathon in 1.15.05, Kelly Jarret who obliterated the women's 10km run record by over minutes with a sizzling 34.27, Sarah Lester who improved on her on course record by clocking 19.24 for the 5km run and Steve Jordon who equalled the existing 10km walk record with a very handy 65.52.
We must also make special note of Sunny Gjomakaj efforts, who inadvertingly ran an extra lap in the 30km event to complete 35km in a respecable 3.28.40, in fact it was the longest distance he had ever run. You will be pleased to note that Sunny did not walk away empty handed, and took was promptly awarded the gold medal in the 35km race (there were also just enough pancakes left).
A number of runners approached on the day wanting to obtain our white coolmax running tshirts. We still have a number left in selected sizes that can be purchased online and posted to you.
It was very heartening for us all to see so many happy and smiling faces enjoying the opportunity to challenge themselves over the 6 distances on offer. We realise that many of you will be preparing for the Melbourne Marathon and Half marathon event in October and we wish you all the best in your training and preparations over the coming months.
While you are out logging up those miles on those lonely morning spare a thought for Grahak Cunningham from our Perth Centre who is currently completing in the longest foot race in the world, the Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race in New York. Grahak is currenly lying in 6th place having completed 2300 miles (3700 km) in the past 38 days - as a rate of 98km per day. He is in great spirits and looks set to complete the race in the 2 weeks.
Our next installment on the running scene is the Sri Chinmoy Yarra Boulevard Half Marathon in Richmond on Sunday September 16. The event offers half marathon, 10km and 5km event all culminating in our famous post race breakfast. Earlybird online entry is available till September 14 and we look forward to seeing you there.
