The weather was almost perfect for running. Well perhaps the morning breeze was a touch chilly but the a brilliant blue sky, shining sun and a chorus of birdsong greeted all who toed that start line early Sunday morning. Race Results and images from the day are now available.
In the 5K race, honours were taken by Jake Snowdon in a net time of 14:15 who finished 30 seconds ahead of second placegetter Philip Nass, who was first in the 40-49 age group. The first woman home was Vanja Tufvesson in 20:52.
In the 10K Paul Marsh blitzed the field in a very smart time of 33:57. For the women our first finisher was Eleisha Lilley in 41.53.The half marathon was by far the biggest field with 358 runners, almost larger than the combined sizes of the 5 and 10K races.
Danny Hawksworth finished first in a time of 1:18:09 almost a full minute in front of the aptly named Paul Speed in second (1:18:58) and Brent Letson (1:19:32) in third.
Briony Mungean was the first women home, sneaking in just under 90 minutes (and a full 5 minutes ahead of the next women) in a time of 1:29:54. Genevieve Chambers finished second in 1:34:58 and Sarah De Wolf was third in 1:35:32
We like to pay a special mention to two runners: One of our favourite runners Vern Gerlach, (age 86) who completed the 5km run in a very respectable 48:49. Vern was spotted running in one of our Sri Chinmoy Races T-shirts dating back to 1981!
And from our oldest runner in the field to perhaps our youngest: Oliver Porceddu, who completed 10km in 41:56 to finish 31st place overall and first in his U15 age category.
We hope that you all enjoyed the morning as much as we did. We look forward to seeing you all at our next race, the Sri Chinmoy Maribyrnong River Run on Sunday 6 November.
Happy Running!
