Well done to all who ran in the Sri Chinmoy Princes Park 10K on Sunday. Mother Nature certainly showed her finest by greeting us with still and sunny conditions for a great day of racing.

Results and images from the day are now available.

The 10km event turned into one horse race with Andrew White stopping the clock in an impressive 31:54 to finish the 2 lap course 2 1/2 minutes clear of the rest of the field. In fact Andrew was running so well he went through 5km in front of the whole 5km field as well.

In the women's event was also won by a margin of 2 1/2 minutes with Bridget Wetherall crossing the line in an impressive 40:04 to take first place.

Line honours in the 1 lap 5km event went to Todd Finn in a speedy 17:12 finishing 41 seconds clear of second place.. Todd also took out first place in the 15-17 age category. In keeping with thefamily tradition Ted Finn, rounded the course in an equally impressive 26:04 to take out the 60-69 age category also.

The 5km women's event was taken out by Rebecca York in a very swift 19:31. Again another two standout age category performances were seen in this event with Lisa Ierardo finishing 3rd overall in 23:11 and 12 year old Daniel Ierardo finishing just behind in an impressive 23:49.

Our next event is the Sri Chinmoy Yarra Boulevard Run on Sunday 28 February with 15km, 10km and 5km distances. Enter online.

Our premier event the Sri Chinmoy Running & Fitness Festival is on Sunday 30 May. The race is run on a fast and flat road course though the streets of Williamstown with full runner services. Marathon, half marathon, 10km and 4km offered. Earlybird online entry now available.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.

Sri Chinmoy Princes Park 15K Race Report

Sunday 26 April 2009, Princes Park, Melbourne

The weather gods certainly had their work cut out keeping away the forecasted rain and high winds from the course on Sunday. Still the drop in temperature and the cool temperature reminded us that winter is just around the corner.

Well done to all the brave souls who toed the start line for the race. A full list of results, photos and the race report from the day are now available.

Congratulations to Bouchiab Ghafnaoui, who hailes from the warmer climate of Morocco who took out the 10km event in a very respectable 34.02, a full 2 minutes ahead of his nearest rival and also well ahead of the whole 5km field at halfway.

However Bouchiab efforts are even more remarkable given that he is carrying a mild leg injury, he arrived late and missed the start by a full minute and then took an unscheduled toilet break during the second lap. We think that Bouchiab, who incidently is a 2.17 marathon runner, will run much much faster at our next race if he can just get to the start without incident.

There were also many other sterling performances from the day from amongst the other 280 competitors who in spite of the wintery conditions put in superb performances. Special congratulations to our 5km winners Hugh Gundlach in 17.30 and Alex Reynolds in 20.37, and also to Karen Sawyer who took line honours in the women's 10km event in 42.56.

In the main event, the 15K, was taken out by Patrick Kenny in a very speedy 54.30 while Robin Waters took out the women's race (and first place in the womens 50-59 age category) in an excellent 59.34 finishing ahead of all but the top 4 men!

There were many excellent age group performances also and special mention must go to Otmar Raus and Nancy Chorley who each won their in the 60-69 age categories in the 15km in 1.10.12 and 1.14.20; proving once again that age is no barrier to maintaining one's speed and enthusiasm for running.

Our next event is our premier event the Sri Chinmoy Running & Fitness Festival on Sunday May 31 at Williamstown incorporating the marathon, half marathon, 10km and 4km distances. The course is flat and fast. Earlybird online entry now available.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our events in 2009.

    The Sri Chinmoy Races Team

    Transcendence is perfection.
    Perfection is transcendence.
    When we transcend our capacities,
Immediately we get an inner thrill,
Which is another name for perfection.
No perfection can ever be achieved
    Without self-transcendence.

Sri Chinmoy Princes Park 10K Race Report

Sunday 11 January 2009, Princes Park, Carlton

Perfect conditions running conditions, cool temperatures, light cloud cover and no wind. We could not have wished for better. Congratulations to the 300 who ran, jogged and walked around Melbourne's favorite Princes Park circuit.

A full list of results and photos from the day are now available online.

Well done to our 5km race winners Luke Searle ( 16.40) and Nikki MacFarlane who crossed the line in 16.40 and 19.47 respectively. However, perhaps even more impressive were Bill Reynold's time of 21.10 to take line honours in the 60+ mens category ahead of many half his age and Vern Gerlach who celebrated his 85th birthday by competing in the 5km event in a swift 47.43. Just goes to show that age is no barrier to sterling performance.

In the 10km event Willie Naylor finished more than a minute ahead of his nearest rival in a very commendable 35.47 while Louise Denley made it 2 wins in a row taking out our final event in 2008 and now our first race in 2009 in 40.36.
