Sri Chinmoy stofnaði Sri Chinmoy maraþonliðið árið 1977 sem þjónustu við samfélag hlaupara og til að vekja athygli á íþróttum sem leið til andlegs þroska.

Í gegnum árin hefur Sri Chinmoy Maraþon liðið orðið stærsti stuðningsaðili lengstu hlaupa veraldar og  staðið að framkvæmd á götuhlaupum, maraþonhlaupum, þríþrautum, íþróttamótum, langsunds viðburðum og frjálsíþróttakeppni öldunga. Maraþonliðið hefur haldið fjölda landsmóta og mörg heimsmet hafa verið sett í keppnum á vegum þess.
