  • Sri Chinmoy Prospect Creek 24 km Run Course Description

    By Prachar Stegemann

The start and finish point of the Sri Chinmoy Prospect Creek 24 km, 12 km and 6 km Run is at the Jack Ferguson Recreation Area at the Gipps Rd Sporting Complex, Greystanes. Access and parking is off Gipps Rd.

The 24 km and 12 km races start just to the north of the Jack Ferguson Recreation Area, in the area designated for supplemental car parking.   The start line is just after the metal exit gate leading out of the car park.   Start with a brief out-and-back just outside of the Goanna Oval, then follow the dirt road north, which loops around the side of Gipps Road Park and leads to the concrete cycle path.   Turn left onto this cycle path and continue around the side of Gipps Road Park and the playing fields, now heading south.

At the southern end of Gipps Road Playing Fields, turn right onto the cycle path heading under Gipps Rd.   Continue on this cycle path with Prospect Creek to your right, heading south-east for several km.   Immediately after passing under the Cumberland Highway, turn left to loop back over the bridge (Cumberland Highway) crossing Prospect Creek, and turn left again to continue following the cycle path now along the western shore of Prospect Creek (the creek is on your left).

Turn right just before the cycle path reaches Fairfield Rd, then left onto the dirt track alongside Farifield Rd across the bridge back over Prospect Creek.   Turn left off the dirt track back onto the cycle path and follow this cycle path along the eastern side of Prospect Creek (heading upstream), northwest back towards the start.   Continue directly under the Cumberland Highway and follow the same route to the Gipps Rd underpass.   After this underpass, turn right and follow the cycle path between Gipps Rd and the athletics field, cross the roadway entering the Gipps Rd Sporting Complex, and continue on the cycle path around the side of the children's playground at the Jack Ferguson Recreation Area.

24 km runners, continue straight to complete another full circuit of the course.   12 km runners, turn into the finish chute on the grass.

The 6 km course starts from near the finish chute at the Jack Ferguson Recreation Area and follows the above course in reverse as far as the Cumberland Highway underpass, then returns by the same route to the finish.

A field of over 300 intrepid individuals braved the wet and windy conditions on a day upon which we fondly remembered our dear runner-friend, Vern Gerlach. We were joined by a number of Vern's family members who, despite their lack of running experience, felt inspired to honour his lifetime of running enthusiasm by taking part.

Well done to everyone who competed. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday May 24th for the Sri Chinmoy Como Landing Half Marathon, 14km & 7km.
