
A record field descended to the shores of the Yarra River in Richmond for the running of the Sri Chinmoy Yarra Boulevard Half Marathon on Sunday. Despite the prior warnings of stormy weather the day provided perfect running conditions for all competitors. Results and Images from the day are now available.
The premier event the half marathon with a 300+ field was won by Adrian Polidano in in a speedu 1:16:31 (pictured below). Marc Vellin came in second in 1:18:12 followed by Rob Hill in 1:20:22, who also finished first in the 40+ men's category.
The women's race was convincingly won by Judith Forsyth in a new course record time of 1:26:53 which scattered the previous course record time by over 3 minutes. Second place went to Danielle Sansonetti in 1.32.28 followed by Isobel Bespalov, the previous course record holder in a very respectable 1:32:42.
Among the age group runners congratulations must go to Robin Waters who took out the 60+ Mens Race in an excellent 1:32:25 and to the evergreen Nancy Choley wo took out the women's 60+ category in 1:49:41.
Line honours in the 2 lap 10km event was taken by Ben Lucus in 37:00 who was followed home my Keith Falconer in 37:29 and Andrew Edwards in 37:31. Andrew's run performance not only earned him third place overall but also first place in the men's 50+ category, finishing ahead of many half his age. Well done Andrew.
The women's 10km event was won by Anna Caudwell in 41:55, with Jacqui Watts taking second in 42:58 and and May Yong Teh in third in 44:50. May Yong also took out the junior 15-17 category and has a bright running future agead of her.
The 5km race was won by Brent Radoslovic in 19:29 with Tom Churchward in 19:57 and Jean-Claude Legres in 20:23 filling out the minor placings.
However the performance of the race goes to Julia Lette who not only won the women's 5km in 20:23 but also crossed the line in 3rd place overall! Rachel McMillan went to claim 2nd in 21.08 which also gave her 5th place outright, followed by Alison Werstuk in 23:14.
There were also some fine junior and senior performances in the 5km race. Notably 8 year old Hayden Morris who took out the U15 men's event in a super fast 22:57 to be placed 7th outright, followed by Dylan Clutterbuck in 24:13, finishing 15th overall. Both fine performances.
The women's U15 was won by Meaghan Gaunt closely talied by Amy Tavigg who both earned the time of 24:43 to finish 6th and 7th in the women's field. In the seniors we could not go past Vern Gerlach who at 84 completed the 5km course in an inspired 44:17.
Our next event is the Sri Chinmoy Maribyrnong River Run on Sunday October 17 with 12km, 8km and 4km distances on offer. Enter online.
In December we return to Williamstown beach for the Sri Chinmoy Williamstown Foreshore Run on Sunday December 12 with the choice of 5km and 10km distance. Enter online.
